The first week of my internship flew by, and I feel myself quickly becoming acclimated to work at the Massachusetts Historical Society. This week, I aided in projects for the Public Programs & Education department, doing everything from writing summaries of historical events to transcribing articles to doing research for summer programs to sorting applications for teacher workshops. I got used to my commute to and from my internship. I took a tour of the research library and saw some of the fascinating artifacts and documents that are housed in the MHS. I watched an exhibit on the Revolutionary War come to life in the days leading up to its opening. Already, in this first week of my internship, I have learned so much about the industry I am exploring and I have received so many experiences that I am sure will help me in pursuing this academic discipline. As the next week of my internship approaches, I am ready to dive in to new projects: In the week ahead, I hope to attend lectures hosted at the MHS, work with primary source documents in the reading room, and branch out to understand the roles of the other MHS departments. At this point, I am enjoying my work even more than I had expected to, and I remain enthusiastic and optimistic about my internship for weeks to come.
